some of us were cowards that did not want to get shot in vietnam--and most never admitted to that part--but at least limited casualty and getting boots on the ground in small skirmishes seemed to fall out of vogue--If a country wants to send bodies out for harm it should be everybody drop everything and it be ''lets get it done''--just like ww2 --as far as the love --peace --generation--that dried up as soon as the coast was clear--the hate mongers on the net keep that enforced
for all the other non traditional new ways --live and let live but give me my space --don't force feed me yours -kinda like trying to make me eat celery --which ain't gonna happen
I ask no agreement

First Tom ....... you are wrong about celery! It's good and I think maybe good for you!
You were not a coward for not wanting to get shot in Viet Nam. I was neither a hero for going nor a coward if I had not gone, but I really did not want to get shot either. I always push back a little on the "let's get it done ..... like WW II" comparison, as the Marines I fought with in Viet Nam were every much as dedicated to their task as the Marines and Soldiers in WW II. In battle, you don't think about fighting for your country, but instead think about fighting for the guy in the foxhole or bunker next to you, your other squad members, or the platoon or company that you don't want to let down. It may sound silly, but the validity of the cause that your country is fighting for, is at best secondary to the soldiers on the front line. You kind of have to have been there to understand it.

yeh the boots on the ground would have been focused on the real environment ,no doubt--I
on the all or nothing statement --I was just thinking--we should have all been making weapons and building airstrips --like D-day-- not just kinda doing it--btw my number never came up --and I never volunteered--and yes anybody that has ever had to meet live action--is a hero in my book --above anyone --the particular war has nothing to do with that---they are owed that --of course anybody that went are also to be honored

The difference ...... not much, if any!
I question a lot of stuff that "everybody" is doing/saying.
When I don't go along and let it be known, am I being an attention whore or a freak or ?????
.....Maybe a closet attention whore?
Edit: Chuck, where do you get your news? I've not seen/heard coverage of Canadians freaking out. I figure we need a convoy, or eight +/-.
