As I understand it, people tag posts because they want the other person to know they've posted a reply to what the other person wrote. I haven't found that it's because of a snarky response, although I presume sometimes it is.
If the post is flaming you, demeaning you or breaking the Hangout rules and being rude, report it to a moderator and we'll look at it.

That's my experience with tagging too, and don't remember being, 'tagged,' so someone could flame me. I appreciate it since it lets met know someone has recognized my response to a topic and, in turn responding to me.

They taggers insult but just enough to stir the pot.
Are the mods notified of tagged comments?
Is "tagging" where/when the poster puts @ plus name before/after the body of his post? .....eg. @Owen.
If that's what it it, so far it hasn't been a problem for me, though I do wonder "why?" I'm still able to keep track of threads I'm participating in without getting a poke.... hopefully that continues.
[How are you notified that you've been tagged?]
Otoh, maybe ^^ is 'way off base.

No, not unless the tagee posts a mod report.
Tagging is a way of getting someone's attention without having to "reply with quote". Some people have very lengthy responses that you don't want to clog up the thread with. Or they may not have posted on the thread at all.
You can also tag multiple people, maybe thanking them all for comments made.
If you are getting snarky responses, that's an entirely different problem!

Thanks Laurence. I've forgotten the details, but somewhere 'way back I found that when I tried to use "plain text" it wouldn't do whatever it was I was trying to do [maybe attach/"import" something???] so I've always used "rich text."
I guess it's like asking a clerk in the supermarket for directions, and then looking up and seeing the big sign.
Now for the big test ........... @Laurence [But I see I couldn't put in the "sad" emojii at the end of ^^ text .... maybe that was my reason (?).
Edit: Now IF I had just been able to get a KISS answer to the KISS question in my first post ^^ [".... Is "tagging" where/when the poster puts @ plus name before/after the body of his post? .....eg. @Owen." ............. ???
Edit #2: But I can type "@Laurence" in rich text [in fact my page goes to "rich" when I go to "edit"] so why do I need "plain text"?

Owen
After you type "@"+ the first three letters of the person's username, you should see a list of possible usernames. As you keep typing,(or scrolling the list) it should filter down to the one you want to select. Then you click on that name and it will create the link on the page.
experiment #2 chuckv97 [At this point it appears to have worked, but scrolling the list is a pain in the butt.]
experiment #4
Q: Will it work to "tag" after I've typed the text??
chuckv97
A: Apparently "yes" it will [though scrolling the list is still a pain in the butt].

Btw... When somebody gets tagged, is there anything that happens so far as the recipient is concerned?
Yes, I did feel my skull tingle
