Pete is a major character in the movie. There is a resurgence with Dylan's earlier music, which is charting again. But has this carried over to Seeger-style banjos? Given that this is a niche of a niche, it wouldn't take a lot of increased interest to be noticeable. But I see some nice longnecks, reasonably priced, still sitting in the classifieds.
It's only been a couple months, so it might take time. But really, the movie isn't particularly popular among the general population. I've only ever heard it mentioned here. It's not on pop social media at all. I wouldn't expect to see a renaissance like we did with O Brother, it's not even close to the same level.
The real question is, is the worldwide supply of capo's ready for a longneck revolution? Stock up now because if longnecks start selling, capo's will be in high demand.

. Good one KC.

The movie barely features anything of Seeger's banjo playing that I remember. The does break from the general hagiographic approach to Seeger and paints him a little closer to what people who know him describe him, but provides minimal barely noticeable playing of his banjo which is unfortunate. Seeger's banjo playing from the 1950s is really one of the neglected treasures of the serious banjo world.
However, I will raise a question here, did he use the long neck banjo on what I consider his two master pieces, the albums "Darling Corey" and "Goofing off Suite" two albums I think every banjoist should be familiar with, if not everyone with ears.
No one who treasures the banjo should be without those recordings.
Da-m it!!!! Joel Hooks beat me to it!
He is actually kind of spot on. Been seeing a trend among the undergrad art students in my area kind up picking up on the late 50’s early 60’s beat fashion. Though I doubt it has anything to do with the movie. Just looks Cool to them I guess.
Long neck banjos, no.

I think there are enough capos to go around.

Did you notice the period-incorrect Shubb in the movie?
Yes but without a longneck banjo, with capo permanently affixed to the 3rd fret, how will everyone know that I'm a real-deal authentic folk singer? Ya know, like the Kingston Trio, who as everyone knows were totally organic and authentic folk singers and were certainly not just commercial slop for the masses.
If I only have 22 frets, people might not be able to see me posing for the camera.
Also Owen you should be banned from the internet for posting that second picture LOL. Jeepers creepers, anyone got any bleach for the eyes?

Yep. I noticed it. Pointed it out to my Wife who "Shooshed" me and called me a geek. Said no-one else in the world would notice or care. Glad I'm not alone....
my brother who really notices things like that refers to them as accidental time travel evidence.
At the end of last year I finally bought a long neck after 58 years of playing, but not due to the movie. I can finally release my inner Pete Seeger, who, along with Tommy Makem (who also played a long neck), were my first banjo heroes. I learned from folksingers, who said things like "I'd like to be able to play like Earl Scruggs - and not do it." I liked Earl, though, and went in the bluegrass direction, probably because I never got that long neck banjo in the beginning. Even now I just got the Goldtone AC1-LN, which seems to satisfy my needs at a bargain price. I'm sure I will be able to find a better one for sale if I ever decide to upgrade.
I really liked the movie, but I doubt it will do anything for the banjo (which is fine with me). There was probably a bigger bump from "A Mighty Wind."
I'm a massive biopic skeptic, especially music films. I usually spend half my time searching for nonperiod gear. This was a great film, period. Not only was all the gear scarily accurate, but I had to do several mental double takes with Norton's scenes as Seeger. Toshi's role on Rainbow Quest, she was in the shows credits as "Chief Cook and Bottle Washer", and Pete's trial were incredibly important details in the role of his music career. I welled up see those aspects dramatized, unbelievable. I've played longnecks as long as I've played banjo, a '61 Vega "Pete Seeger Special" and a Gibson RB-180. I haven't answered your question other than my own enthusiasm increased. The market for them is about the same as the previous decade, but the current market is a bit flat. I hate to put this questionin terms of a market, but that's an indicator. Great question by the way! : )
