Is Sullivan Banjos reliable, compared to the old First Quality Music services? I know it was hard to get service out of the Louisville based First Quality, just wondering how the Alabama based Sullivan Banjos compare?

Not that much experience with First Quality in Ky, and my experience with Eric in Silver Hill, Alabama has been as a walk-in in need of banjo repair/help. Given that he is pretty much a one-man operation I would think the best thing to do would be to call him and discuss what you need and get a time frame for it. I would assume the in-stock orders would be out the door within a reasonable time. I do know that my experience was always topflight and I wouldn't hesitate to send Eric my business after I spoke with him to address any questions and/or concerns.

Some 35 years ago I had setup questions and called FQMS. Bill graciously spent a 1/2 hr talking me through just what I needed. Eric is no different. A few years ago I purchased a used custom V35 with a neck made from an 1800s maple piano upright. Called Eric and he told me about all the labor process making the banjo. Again valuable information provided gratis. The Sullivans have been innovative with salvaging old wood and developing torrefied wood processes. Craftsmanship is first class. I would not hesitate engaging Eric for services in the future.

Bill Sullivan was great to buy from. I've bought lot of strings and supplies when he was living. It was sad to lose him. Eric Sullivan has treated me the same way as his Dad. I still buy from Eric and he has always treated me well.

I've only bought small items (bridges, parts, etc.),but they've always been shipped right away.

I have always enjoyed dealing with Eric at both locations. He has always been very helpful, but very busy and sometimes takes some time to respond. Today's business is much smaller with fewer offerings and he does not have a staff. Knowing this, keep your expectations reasonable, and you should have a good experience.

Doug,
good to hear from you. listened to your great rendition of early morning rain today. wow!
My experience with Eric is that he a true stand up guy. He is good at what he does and he is accurate in what he says.
