It's 16 degrees here and a little breeze which makes the wind chill around 7 or 8.
Just went out and turned the heater on in the pump house. Was 20 degrees in there. Glad everything is wrapped up like it should be. Wasn't outside more than a few minutes and came in frozen. Still trying to warm up.
I'll be so glad when this cold weather is over and we're back to our normal winter.

Originally posted by Elmo_SmileyHey all my excellent Canadian and Northern US friends on here; tonight we are expecting a low of around 8 deg F. I believe for you metrical fans that's somewhere in the range of -20 deg C.
You are more than welcome to have your polar air mass back. Kindly keep the next one, too. No thanks.
Yes indeedy .... it's warmed up to -20 C. today and forecast to keep soaring (?) before dipping for the weekend.
But with no wind, -20 C. is okay. 'Twas -35 a couple of nites back ... and there was a fair wind to boot. Winds typically subside as temp. falls, but ^^ was No! Fun! At! All!
[I tip my toque to those who have to be out in it.]

These guys be jumpin' in the water to warm up:
"The first-ever Thompson Polar Plunge was held at Paint Lake this last Saturday, January 18, 2025. The temperature was a frigid -48 degrees with the windchill. Employees with the Thompson RCMP, along with other partners and participants, bravely took the jump while raising funds for Special Olympics Manitoba. Manitoba North District Commander, Supt. Paul Peddle, who took part in this event, said, "I want to thank everyone who played a role in making this event a tremendous success. Any time we can participate in a community activity which benefits such a fantastic organization as Special Olympics Manitoba, is a huge win in our books."

Not dooin that..
Nope...nott'ah..chance... ;0[
I'll probably never do a polar plunge.
When I was a kid and the family travelled to the W Coast...the day we were at the beach I ran directly and jumped into the ocean not knowing how cold the water can be. The cold water did a number on me as I ended up getting a crazy muscle cramp in my back that wouldn't go away till few days later.
I dunno, Tom... like you mentioned ^^ , I expect you'd find it "invigorating"!
I had a stint on a dunk-tank into water, with ice, as a charity fund raiser when I was a student ... mid '60s.* And as a young adult (?) I did a quick in/out in the Winnipeg River during spring break-up. On reflection I suspect it would have been an okay idea to have another person on hand for the [100% sober, btw] dip into the river ... but otoh, no harm, no foul??
* now that I'm well past my mid-60s, I might be a bit more talk than walk.

lol Owen. Imo, there's a big difference between running outside for a bit and submerging yerself in water.
A handfull of Winters ago one weekend when I had my boys (I get them on weekends) I talked them into going outside to experience the -11F temps one night. I got them in a circle and we held hands as I did a pep talk to rally them going. Finally when we were yelling LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO I took my shirt off and started out. I didn't tell them and they didn't expect that part...but I got them to do it anyways. We went out and counted to 30 real fast then went back inside and stood in front of the woodstove the warm up. They still bring it up when its real cold out.

Ken, if I were you, I'd go let the car warm up for an hour and during that time make a big pot of soup. Then I'd hop in da car/truck and go pick up a couple sammiches at the Northern Waters Smokehouse!!! Definitely our favorite stop when going through Duluth!!!
Slammer!!!
