Yes, you've got to do something to keep the neck from wobbling.
I recently attached an 11" neck to a 10 7/8" pot. I put 1/16" worth of maple veneer between them as shown in the photo. The finished instrument is a sweetie, weighing in at 3 1/2 lbs.
Eric, I'm no computer whiz, but what has worked for me is: If it's a topic that I've started, down in the bottom right corner of my posts there's an icon that, to me, looks like a writing pad w/pencil. It says: "Edit topic" and it allows me to do that.

If you don't care how it LOOKS, as long as it SOUNDS good and PLAYS well, wedges, shims, epoxy putty, or whatever, to make the heel a bit longer.
Somebody had a mahogany disc, once used for casting metal mailboxes, and asked me to put a guitar neck on it.
Looked kind of strange, but he liked the way it sounded, so, happy customer.
