Heres Doc Watsons version. I have worked out the strumming but not the lead\intro\break. Doc plays similar to the Stanley brothers version.

Your awesome Jack. I actually found a decades old post of your Earl tab searching bho, which is what Doc played in that video. Im super happy.
Yes it was Earl, Chuck. The version I tabbed out was not from the posted video although it's pretty much the same as Earl played on an earlier version....Jack
Originally posted by chuckv97I think it’s Earl playing fingerpicking guitar,, sounds like his style,, not 100% sure,, could be Doc.
I’ve got it capo’d at 6 , in Bflat, out of E chord shape. Just messing with it now,,, maybe someone has it tabbed out.

Jack Baker Question.
When I play this version it sounds right in G until I hit the open 1st open 6th on the 5th measure, for instance. So i watched some Earl and Doc and noticed they capod on the 6th sometimes and the 5th sometimes. I also realize there is a rythm guitarist playing in G that hits the low notes(which I also have your tabs for).
So is this song usually played in C, C# or ?
Thanks. Im enjoying the experimenting.
