.... one revolution of the crank = 6 times around the world?!?!?

https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/want-to-ride-real-fast-relativity-special/

I haven't really tried to put my limited math skills* to the test, but ^^ sounds too far-fetched.

Just looking at it and estimating (?) the number of teeth/sprocket X the number of sprocket sets tells me it might not even make it 6 times around Russell's perimeter.

* inverse relationship to the number of zeros, among other things.

It's bit of circular argument (or cyclical?)... assuming you could violate the laws of physics; then sure it would be possible to violate the laws of physics.

It's leaving out mass and force... energy required. Essentially you would not be able to push the pedal, not even one rotation. Further, even if could initially apply enough mass/force... as speed of tire rotation increases, more energy is required; as get closer to speed of light, the energy needed increases to infinity.

Ironically, despite name or "Relativity Special" - it's leaving out physics of special relativity.

People who can really handle math (and physics) are operationg in a world that I can’t fathom. My hat’s off to them.

You'd have to know the gear ratios and tire size in order to calculate the distance per pedal stroke, but the amount of force required for one full pedal revolution with the tire contacting the earth wouldn't likely be within human capability.

I see 12 gears. If each has, a 10:1 ratio then 1 turn of the pedals would turn the driven wheel 10^12 (10 followed by 12 0's_ times. Circumference of the wheel is say 2m so that's 20,000,000,000 ,000 m/rev. They talk about 90 rpm,1.5 revs/sec so about 30,000,000,000,000 m/s. As the speed of light is only a fraction of this it looks like they have indeed solved the problem of faster than light travel. Nobel prize on its way for sure.
