2 necked guitars have been around for a long time, both electric and acoustic. The 2 necks typically have one conventional 6 string neck. The other neck could be a 12 string, bass or mandolin neck. Paul Bigsby even made some electric guitar/mandolin double necks before Fender started building guitars.
