I'm looking for a chord chart in g tuning. I know you can buy them, but i'm wondering if anyone has a link to a free one. I googled it, and the results under pics on google confuse me more than anything.

I have no idea where you'd find a chord chart for a 6 string but....

I've got one (somewhere) for a 5 string banjo that shows major, minor and 7th chords. It's been a while, so I'm not sure if it shows the minor chords or not. I'll see if I can locate it.

You might also look at this archived post about chord charts: https://www.banjohangout.org/archive/286154

My chord chart (for multiple tunings) is right here on BHO.

Cool website. I'll try using this next time i play. I never learned rhythm and a lot of songs I like are early country records that don't seem to have tabs for banjo. I've just been trying to play rhythm for them. This may help, as googling the chords gets confusing fast.

The format of these chord charts are in the tablature form originally used by the Banjo Newsletter. Here's an example:https://www.hangoutstorage.com/banjohangout.org/storage/tabs/f/tab-flying-clouds-u-25345-24117742022.pdf

The chords are in vertical notation (numbers being the fret to be fingered). Each chord may have multiple positions on the neck. The "X" on 4th string position means that string should not be played.

As Carl mentioned, it's spelling out using fret number, as would look like in TAB; reading down from first to fourth string. (It can be useful even if not using TAB.)

The first column just spells the open tuning. For example if you look under G tuning,

D - first string
B - second string
G - third string
D - fourth string
G' - fifth string

So for C chord, go across to column for C, the first C chord is

2 - first string second fret
1 - second string, first fret
0 - third string, open
2 - fourth string, second fret

The next column to right, are just other C chords up the neck.

For a more straight up visual pictogram, the previous link  https://banjochords.net/ has an interactive component, just select what root and chord type (major/minor, 7th..)
