Hello, I am a senior in high school and have decided to learn to play the banjo as a senior project and need a mentor. Being a mentor basically just means meeting with me four times to check on my progress and answer any questions I have. It is not a large time commitment. I had a mentor locally but she had to retire due to health problems so now I am in search of a new mentor. If you know anyone who would work please let me know!

Does the mentor have to be someone local to where you live? If so you should let people know what geographic area you’re talking about.

They don’t necessarily need to be in my geographic area. I originally was trying to find someone that was but virtual will work too. I can meet through zoom or other similar video calling platforms. I live in upstate South Carolina by the way.

I viewed some of Mr Gitlin’s videos. I think you’d have a tough time finding a better mentor than him. Man, he can play that thing!

I think that your chances of finding viable candidates would be enhanced if you reveal your secret location.

I wrote it in a previous reply, but I’m in upstate South Carolina.

If you are near Pickens County reach out to Young Appalachian Musicians, you could connect with one of their programs or they would know of someone local.

Also, if you are over that way Charles Wood is in Seneca. Would absolutely be worth a drive to take lessons with him.
