I read something somewhere that he’ll be ok but he was ready to retire anyway so this closed the door completely although a few hours earlier than planned.
I saw the Scene at the Colorado River Fstvl in Blythe, CA a number of years ago,, he was in good form but I was disappointed that Ben couldn’t make the trip out west. I forget who filled in,, might’ve been Justin Jenkins.
From Sally Love Connell's 11/18 Facebook post:
"There is no joy in Mudville...
Dudley took a fall while walking Woody (our dog) last Wednesday and hurt himself pretty badly: broken right upper arm, broken ribs, punctured lung. The doctors tell us that his recovery will take 8-12 weeks. Besides the pain that he's in (and it's a lot), he won't be able to play guitar or sing for some time. To be clear - it was the sidewalk's leaf-covered toe-knockers that did it, not Woody...
It looks like the Scene show they had 2 weeks ago in Wilmington Ohio at Joe Mullins' Industrial Strength Bluegrass Festival was Dudley's last with the group. What a great show that was, and what an anticlimactic end to things.
Thankfully, he'll be ok. Eventually. He was really looking forward to seeing everyone and playing with his Scene brothers until the end of the year. The 'farewell tour' has been cut short.
On a very positive note, we have an amazing community/village here. Everyone has been so helpful and supportive... (and they're great cooks!). They show us the value of true friendship every day.
Once he learns how to type legibly with his left hand, he'll be communicating directly."
