His style was pretty much developed then already - lots of Merle Travis influence too.

The Carters got offered a job without Chet and Maybelle said they wouldn't play without him.

You’re right about his sound, Chuck. Distinctly more Travis-y than later on.

Yeah, and he was forever grateful to Maybelle,, as to her L-5 guitar which she bought for $275 in Kingsport, TN in 1928 ...

"The Country Music Hall of Fame acquired Maybelle Carter's Gibson L-5 guitar in 2004. The guitar was purchased for $575,000 by Murfreesboro businessman Bob McLean. It is now on display in the museum's "Precious Jewels" exhibit."
