Who loves em? Who hates em?
I have just recently discovered Mangoes. They instantly became my favorite fruit. Possibly my favorite edible from any of the food groups. Dont know why this luscious, delectable, succulent, super sweet, super fruit escaped my notice until my 7 th decade above ground. Whatever the reason, Im making up for lost time now.
Have been learning more about them. Their are over 100 varieties grown world wide. Over the past summer, my local groceries have stocked excellent mangoes imported from Mexico. Dont know what variety they were, possibly Kent. Mango growing season is over in Mexico for this year, Over the past month or two the mangoes have been coming from Ecuador and Brazil, They are Tommy Atkins variety and they are HORRIBLE. Very stringy texture and fishy smelling. Not edible.
The best variety I have found is the Keitt. They are a late season mango harvested in OCT and NOV. They are delicious and huge. The ones I have purchased are 2 pounds and over. They are available now in my local stores.
Their is a correct way and an incorrect way to slice a mango. I mangled the first two I sliced, Had to google it to find the correct method.
As if toothsomeness were not reason enough to eat them, they are also rich in nutrients. Dont like mangoes you say? Maybe you have never had a Keitt.

I like mangos. I don't like to peel and slice them. That's a pain in the posterior. Now I purchase mango "pieces" from the grocery store. Let them do all the messy work and I'll enjoy the fruits of their labor. I like them either by themselves or in a salad.
I have a lady friend who can't stand mangos and nearly gags when she sees me eat one. Needless to say, I don't fix anything with mangos if she's around.
