I hope all goes well .... but be careful!!
You probably want to avoid this: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/health/other/review-into-amputation-underway-after-patient-says-wrong-leg-removed-at-grace-hospital/ar-AA1tVXto The first I heard about it was on CBC radio this a.m. On reading the whole article, it might be a bit less straightforward than the headline implies .... I hope the results of any "investigations" don't just get lost in the shuffle.
And you probably want to avoid this as well:
Brother I fear you may have waited too long.. Last time I saw that knee it was darn near ground up inta mush! They really gotta replace it with one of them titanum knees,, but I dunno how you gonna afford that!! And what the heck is that blue thing anyways `,:( and why does he look so mischevius ',:) like that, haha I love these little emoje guys tho. >xD except for that one, that one makes me angry >>:( yipes.
Had my left knee replaced about 6 years ago and had done all the lead-up work for the right one. There was noticeable improvement, but not enough so that it wasn't still the "weak link," so I ixnayed the right one. Nothing in the interim tells me I should have done things differently, though I do sometimes wonder how things would be IF I'd chosen to get the right one done first. [And No!, my doc wasn't Dr. Riviera!!] As I recall, the last time I could stand/walk normally was prior to tearing it apart in '71 .... but I last skated 2001ish, and was still occasionally hobbling around a basketball court until sometime around 2006. C'est la vie.

I don't know. It was the doctor's choice. Perhaps design of the year? Anyhow, this design seems to work good.
I wonder if there might be a matching concave surface to the tibula/tibia/fibula/fibia/?? insert that's hidden by the "rim" due to the angle at which the X-ray is taken [and/or knee still under some traction when pic was taken??].
But, but, but .... that's the retired farmer/teacher in me that's wondering... not the retired M.D.

One good thing about an aging population is that the doctors have been getting lots of practice. I remember getting a health and safety lecture at work from the company doctor. That was back in 1971. He didn't seem to have any great enthusiasm for knee surgery . At that time he said it was ' 'patchwork'. Fast forward to 53 years later. I have known dozens of people who have had it in the last 20 years. That would include telephone linemen, office workers, teachers, housewives, and anybody who played a lot of sports.. The reports are good although the recovery period varies. Almost every one of them will tell you its worthwhile in the long run.
For me, the pain of PT was mucho less than the pain when getting into/out of bed*, and on/off the toilet.* I simplified the routine given to me by the physiotherapist, but at every evaluation, she said I was "ahead of the curve" ... so, "just keep doing what you're doing." YMMV, but I hope you'll soon be up polka-ing and catching up on the housework you're neglecting.
* - dunno if the correlation is in any way related to Don's comment re. aging.
