I'm scheduled for a biceps tenodesis on my left shoulder at the beginning of December. How was the experience for you and how long did it take you to get back to playing after surgery?

Arthroscopic or standard? Style of playing? Is the weight of the banjo on your left shoulder? All factors involved in giving you an answer. I had my left shoulder 'scoped years ago. I don't know what was done exactly, but I was playing within a week. Maybe less; the memory has faded. I play clawhammer with an openback banjo, usually sitting with the weight of the banjo on my lap. Might have been diferent standing with a resonator instrument. I had no problem with fretting, changing chords or moving up and down the neck.

I play mostly clawhammer sitting down but it's a big part of how I relax so I'll take whatever I can get. It's arthroscopic surgery with one bigger opening where they reattach the tendon. I know I'm stuck in the immobilizer sling full time for about 2 weeks, and then I can start PT.
