Two, imo, giants in old time and bluegrass. Bill started singing bluegrass in the late 1940’s already.
Here they are singing the old popular standard “Give Me Roses While I Live”

There were a lot of other giants in the background as well. I really enjoyed that.

There were a lot of giants there. I identified Ramona Jones (wife to Grandpa Jones), John Hartford, Jesse MacReynolds, Bashful Brother Oswald, and I guess the rest were also famous artists.

The Lewis Family, Bobby Osborne, Del McCoury, James Monroe, Jason Carter, Buddy Spicer, Pappy Sherrill. I have to go back and watch it again to see if I missed any.

Bill Clifton means a lot to me. When I was really young, under 10, the music I heard and knew was pretty much Carter Family. An aunt lent us a pile of 78 rpm records. Then when LPs came out, my parents bought a cabinet stereo and Bill Clifton Sings the Carter Family was one of the first LPs they bought. I knew many of those songs and I had an invisible transition into bluegrass from that! So I was able to appreciate the Flatt & Scruggs and Stanley Bros records that followed.

Then they got an LP of Bill's straight bluegrass (including John Duffey, Ralph Stanley, Junior Huskey, etc) supporting Bill's regular band, which was hard edged straight bluegrass.

Plus I believe Bill published either the first, or among the first, big songbook of bluegrass songs that weren't necessarily his records.

I felt kind of "cheated" when festivals came along and Bill Clifton wasn't using a full bluegrass band any more.

There are a bunch of videos from that bluegrass reunion gathering.  Sonny, Eddie & Martha Adcock, Jim Shumate, Melvin Goins, Buddy Spicher, J.D. Crowe, Doyle Lawson, Jeanette Carter, Donna Stoneman, Jim McReynolds, Mike Compton, and others.  Really good.

Bill Clifton is credited with starting the weekend long bluegrass festival,, 3 years before Carlton Haney,,, so I read in Bill's Wikipedia bio.

That's Mac Wiseman on the far left, seated with red vest and black hat.
