Hello all. I used to be active here, but life changed what I was doing professionally and musically, to the banjo went away about 15 years ago.
I started with a Goodtime in around 2005-6 and enjoyed it quite a bit. A growing family and demanding education career, however, kept the banjo on the back burner until the flame went out. But, more life changes - divorce and retirement brings about more time and desire to pick the banjo back up.
I've been playing my acoustic guitar more and getting involved with local open mics and writing a few songs and playing and singing more in public. I have failed at retirement and am into my second year teaching middle school science after a career of teaching high school vocational agriculture. But, being single and no longer being an FFA advisor has given me much more time to devote to music. I play a mix of flat pic and fingerstyle guitar and am working on bringing in more forward and backward rolls to my Travis pick alternate rolls I use now.
So, while having an adult beverage one evening and after checking my bank account, I decided to get back into the banjo game. I went with banjoteacher.com and Ross Nickerson and settled on a Goodtime Special Artisan. I'm now awaiting delivery.
I have no delusions of ever being anything but an avocational picker and wanted something that is bluegrassy, without all of the extra weight. I remember my first Goodtime fondly and like the mellow sound of that series. I expect this may be last banjo I buy and it should serve me well for the way that I play.
Guess that's about it. Just wanted to say hello.
Looks like you have a plan. A lot has happened in the banjo world these past 15 years.

Great arrangement chuckv97 I love this old tune. I think I might just check this one out this weekend. Tunes sound so much better in the Key of C

Thank you, Fred!
My Goodtime arrived today! Too bad I'm too tired from teaching and coaching today to really do much except trying to tune it and making some slow box rolls. My 21 year old son and 9 year old cat seem to both like it. Son said he missed hearing the happy sound of the banjo live. The cat likes my guitar playing and hopefully will either learn to like the banjo or will leave. I'm good either way!
I'll give it a day or two to get used to the lack of humidity here and get underway again. First basketball game with 6th and 7th graders tomorrow night, so I may have a little time after school to get going on it again.
Now to install the strap...

Happiness is a house full of "that half barbaric twang".
