I have several banjos and it seems that the connection of the body to the neck is tight and filled with a type of soft sound absorbing material (i.e. felt). I recently purchased a rather nice banjo but noticed a gap (see photo) where the body / neck meet. Any opinion on whether that space needs attention? THANK YOU

That actually the space between the heel of the neck and the resonator. The space you have is fine. The felt is to keep it from rattling and to hide any slight imperfection in the fit. No problem with the space you have. It's fine.

The resonator isn't really the "body" of the banjo. There's no resonator-neck connection at all. The rim is connected to the neck, and the resonator is connected to the rim.

No impact on sound. Cosmetic only. I would put some thick felt there.
