So after I departed from the Belfast Hall last night things got dicey,,,, I shoulda stayed there.
I got pulled over for turning right on a red light (WHAT!??) … the constable-on-patrol (COP for short) took my docs, cards, etc. , & proceeded to tell me my registration had expired,,, sheesh!
Then I had to scramble thru my glove box to find my newest insurance pink card,, I had given him my expired one,, dubbel sheesh! So because I think he saw my banjo on the back seat, he let me off on the registration violation and only nailed me with the red light right turn,,, $260.
So, (everybody precedes their talking with “so” these days ??) today I go to the Registry office and yer supposed ta skan some weird code diagram,, hey, I grew up in the 1950’s,, wadooeyeknow, & I only have a flip top phone which I left at home…. I sulk my way back home, get my phone, back to the rgstry office,, do the transaction after a 1/2 hr wait… and , wait, it gets worse/better. I get a call (why didn’t I turn my phone off..?!) from some voicemail saying somebody used my Visa card on 2 transactions for over $1600… ! , saying pls press 1 to speak to a representative,, I’m freaking out,, so I press 1 and hear somebody with a heavy accent ,, I hang up quick. I get home & call Visa & all’s well that ends well. I’m not suited for modern life…. sigh
I think everyone has a bad day occasionally.
Recently I was washing some blankets and my washer refused to rinse and spin. Went to the Big Box store for a new one and had a problem finding anyone that worked in that dept. Then had severe sticker shock at the prices. They didn't have the two that I'd looked at on line .. and that said they were in stock. Finally decided on one and had to wait several days to get it delivered. Then they delivered the wrong one, but ended up liking it and it was the same price, so kept it.
Then that weekend I watered the yard and when I went turn off the outside faucet, it wouldn't turn off all the way and dripped all night long. Next morning I put a Y on it and turned everything off and that brought it down to a trickle. Got a plumber out the next day and he fixed it. Again, sticker shock .... $150 for a service call and would have been more had I not had a replacement faucet.
Should I go on or do you get the idea?
My washer always does the rinse/spin all on her own.*
Even got some reverse sticker shock today [if such a critter exists] ....in Brandon to look into a new axle for the SurfSide .... $860 [that's 650 of those funny lookin' ones south of the border] ... Made by Dexter, 3500 lb. rating; complete with electric brakes, hubs. After looking online [i.e. none of that being ill-suited for modern life for me ], I'd kinda set my mind to +/-$1200 Cdn., so I guess my good clean livin' is paying off.
Chuck, yer tale reminds me of one time when I was young(er) and foolish(er). We were "touring" ... me driving my '66 Ford Galaxie 500XL [], and my buddy and his girlfriend in the back [I dunno what they were up to; I was busy concentrating on my driving]. Anyhoo, I got stopped and asked the typical stuff. After a bit the officer says: "This would be easier if you'd put it in neutral." and only then did I realize he'd been walking s-l-o-w-l-y alongside. But, all's well that ends well .... no ticket ... dunno whether it was because I was so darn good lookin' or played for the town hockey team, or ??? And fwiw, I never tried to find out!
* - ... but I'm not totally useless, I do other things around the house to compensate.

If I need to call any 1-800 number its usually downhill from there. My mobile phone bill arrived and it was $5 higher with no obvious explanation even with me clicking on both links. Apparently the days of calling and getting somebody no longer exist. I had to be ready for the call at 1:00 the next day. An actual robot called me but my 'call block feature' prevented him from ringing my phone because he doesn't have a finger to touch a designated button. After that fiasco a call came in and I was abruptly told that there was likely a notification on a previous bill that would have explained my current increase.. NOPE ! The guy on the end of the phone was in Romania. He was extremely interested in U.S. politics. After a few minutes of that we were both in a better mood.

Chuck ..... was there a sign that said "No Right Turn on Red" ...... or did you not come to a full stop before turning right on red ....... or in that jurisdiction can you not turn right on red. You were/are a professional driver, so it seems like you would know. If you did everything right I would sure contest the ticket.

Hi John,, yes, there's a "no right turns on red light" sign,, the opposite side has an advanced green and their left-turning vehicles don't want interference from right turns on the side I was on. It was raining,, I missed the sign. 16 years driving a semi I only had two tickets.. 1.3 million miles. C'est la vie

Still crappy!
Well, I had to replace my refrigerator last month. Then, the washer wouldn't spin. I priced new washers, and no, not now. But I actually managed to find a competent repairman. $200 to replace a broken coupling. Considering ~2 hours of labor time and cost of parts, probably pretty reasonable these days, and easier on the wallet than a new machine.
But-- my doctor heard something a few weeks ago, had me get a CT scan, and gave me a referral to a thoracic surgeon. Uh-oh. Could get real dicey around here. I'll know something next Friday.
Sorry y'all, not to belittle your problems, but I'd rather get a traffic ticket . . . or have another appliance break down.

I saw the doc yesterday. I've got some serious problems that have to be fixed, and am going to have major cardiac surgery next month, followed by a long period of convalescence. The good news is that they give me a 99% success rate.
I've got a lot to take care over the next couple of weeks. I probably won't be posting much, if at all, for a long while. I wish you all a happy autumn and a joyful Thanksgiving.

Take care if yourself, and let us know if we can do anything to raise that success up to 100%.

All the best, Bob. 99% is great.
