I'm working on a tab for Morning Bugle by John Hartford and am trying to figure out what tuning he's in. I've tried it in C and double C but nothing seems right. Does anyone have any idea?

I think he often used to tune eBEG#B (three frets below standard G tuning).

On the recording I hear the chords Ab, Eb, Bb, and F so he is probably tuned a step sharp or capo 1 fret.

It may also be Eb tuning: eb-Bb-Eb-G-Bb which is four steps below standard G tuning. The chords shapes used is then:

Ab : C in G tuning (2 0 1 2 from fourth to first string)

Eb : G in G tuning (all strings open)

Bb: D in G tuning (0 2 3 4 from fourth to first string)

F: A in G tuning (2 2 2 2 from fourth to first string)
