Howdy, y'all!
I love this song! During some practice, I made a pretty interesting banjo tone, I think. It has several layers of things to make it stand out from what I'm personally used to hearing. Kind of threw the whole "warm" package at it. This song was played on a Gold Tone AC-12a with a 12" Renaissance head with a dampening cloth, a bridge mute, capo'd to 4 from being tuned to A, and to top it all off has a little 5th string capo that gives the drone note a cute, satisfying little "click" sound when paired with everything else.
Interested to see if anyone has any opinions, questions, or perhaps even suggestions for future sound/tone experimentation! Playing feedback on anything I share is always welcome as well! :)

Thank you!
And yeah, that is the big downside to this video, I suppose. I accidentally had my external mic plugged in incorrectly, so it used my quieter camera mic instead. What I did forget to mention about the banjo bridge mute is that it does give the banjo a little bit of a natural distorted/overdriven sound, which makes the audio quality seem a little bit worse than it is. But yeah, I boosted the audio some, but it's still a bit quiet on a lot of speakers. :\

Thank you! And I am definitely hoping to use this same setup with the proper mic in the near future, too!
I think the incredible sound/tone diversity of the banjo makes it so unique as an instrument! From fretless gourd banjos to shiny bluegrass banjos, there are just sooo many sounds you can get! I can't think of any other instrument that has such a broad array of different styles and sound possibilities!

Hey that's alright. I'm sure you'll keep improving your recording setup. It is a kind of long term project that you can keep working on.
Cool banjo too!
Cheers

I have one too, and it performs as well or better than much more expensive banjos I've owned. It's a much underrated open back banjo.
Oh goodness, yes! +1 to that! I absolutely love mine! I was blown away by the specs those things have at the price point! It sounds fantastic and is IMO extremely playable, especially for anything melodic or any song that I want to give a calm/peaceful mood. Very smooth and controllable! I love the neck/width/spacing on the fingerboard more than any other banjo I own for songs requiring a lot of detail.
