Is this a car or truck? [I'm not knowledgeable about the "irregular" shape of the rear of the cab/passenger compartment/??]

What's the "thing" that looks like a roll-bar?

Any/all insights mucho appreciated.

I have no idea but the square body reminds me of the Model-Ts and As.

I dunno, but if you pushed me, I’d say truck.

Looks like a 1926 or 1927 Ford coupe without the rear deck. Probably an old race car. A pickup cab would have been shorter.

I dunno Darren ... when I "look up" '26/'27 Ford coupe" the front-to-back length of the doors looks to be different.  But, otoh, I suppose customizing cars has been with us for as long as there's been cars.

This has come to the fore due to a guy [coincidentally named Darren] posting it to a Facebook group for residents and former residents of the rural district where I was raised.   The other day I posed my questions to that site, but so far nada, so today I tried to contact the poster hisself.  We shall see.

On a quasi-related note, I highly recommend Michael Perry's Truck. The book, not the actual truck.

His Population 485 is also a great read. In my opinion.

Coop is also good.

It is a truck. A coupe would have had another window behind the door window.

The "other" Darren, the guy that posted the initial pic got back in touch.  His knowledge (?) pretty-well matches mine ... although it apparently sat for m-a-n-y years in his parents farm yard, back in the day.

I don't think it's a truck, the cabs were pretty short. It might be a sedan with the back portion cutoff and moved forward or a coupe with the quarter windows cut out. It's a 26 or 27 Ford and the top has been chopped also.

The hinged cover on the cowl covered the gas filler. The gas tank was under the dash which continued until the 1932 Model B came out and the tank was moved to between the rear frame rails.

Might be an old drag racer, I don't think it's an old circle track car, the body looks pretty straight to be one.

I believe its its a Manitooba rat rod. Seriously I agree with Darren. The model T had those tall windows [1909 to 1927]. There wasn't a lot of difference between the Model T car or truck. You were also able to buy a stripped down basic vehicle without a body attached. The vehicle in the photo seems to have a roll bar made of the head frame from  a double bed.

Looks like a perhaps a large truck that's bed has gone missing. It's for sure not a Ford, as the Ford A & T models, having the fuel tank under the cowl, had the fuel filler cap where this thing's air intake is.

That isn’t an air intake. It is the fuel filler.  Late 20s fords had a door/hatch over the filler cap.  Tank was gravity fed, and depending on level of fuel in the tank, you could experience fuel starvation when going uphill, necessitating backing up a hill.

... fuel cap or vent door: Ron's pic of the Ford shows a conventional, twist on/off, gas cap  The OP pic looks like there's no mechanism to open the door (?) from the outside.  Was this the case, or has some part gone AWOL, or my eyes tricking me, or ???
