Richard Criswell built some very beautiful banjos in Monticello Kentucky.
A few different configurations with parts either fabricated in his shop or sourced from the best local builders, and featured premium Prucha hardware.
Most were double cut peghead with Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern.
He only charged around 3k for his banjos, but they're every bit as good as others that were going for 4 or 5 at the time.
Unfortunately, he got sick and passed unexpectedly just a couple of years ago.
He was a fine gentleman, and he cared quite a bit about his instruments.
Even though I build my own, I'd like to own one of his banjos someday.

I think you are referring to the auction that occurred in Sept 2022. Someone bought a number of them and they are offered on occasion. I can't remember where I have seen them. There were a fair number in the auction and, sadly, they sold for far less than their quality would normally merit.
