I'm pretty sure if you have #50 then they made at least 50. That would make the number 20 out of the question.

Unless they started the numbering at 50, like my bank does with checks. Maybe you've actually got the first one ever made!

Can't help but pipe up... Although I readily admit I do not know how many Flint Hill Special banjos Gibson produced, I will say with a fair amount of certainty that it was far more than 50.... and that is just the "standard" flint hill special. I also know that Gibson produced at least one "special" series of Flint Hill Special; The Earl Scruggs Flint Hill Special (the name may not be exactly right) which came from the factory with a reproduction red line case that had a badge on it stating "Special Series" Flint Hill Special, an Earl Scruggs instruction book (the one we all know and love, "Earl Scruggs and the five string banjo) a CD, and several other pieces of ephemera... documents, etc. I suspect a bit of sleuthing can reveal an accurate, or fairly accurate, number of these several series of Flint Hill Banjos.

The serial number on my Flint Hill Special is 05-06 FH (meaning 6th banjo of 2005). If yours is #50 and made in 2004, then I would expect that your serial number would be 04-50 FH.
