In the early 70's wife & I were at a Carleton Haney Fest In Berryville Va sitting in the audience on the provided wooden crates when a young teen lad was walking up to the stage side carrying a mandolin case . Obviously it was the boys intention to show Monroe (standing by the stage) his mandolin . As he approached Monroe the case came open & out tumbled his F mandolin breaking off the peghead curl & Monroe did his best to comfort the shocked lad while whatever band played on .
This was an event we will never forget !
Somewhere we have a pic of Bill & my wife from that fest but where I don't know as it was way before our internet usage .
Bob, that reminds me of this Bill Monroe story,, starts at 3:19, , Bobby Osborne tells it
