I started volunteering at a local charity that rescues animals. They communicate only through FB. So a fake name got me a fake account so I can go help rehome abandoned birds, pigs, goats, dogs and the like.
My first impression is everyone who makes it onto those feeds are photoshopping liars. I guess in an attempt to make everyday people feel substandard. Ive already seen two dozen fake AZ pics of places that dont exist in my own backyard.
None of my family uses it so I wont be using it for that, we still make phone calls.
" They communicate only through FB."
That is becoming the way of the world. If I want to know which bands are playing in which clubs or what the dinner specials may be I need facebook now that there are no more local newspapers to provide such info. I jam with friends and find out the when and where on facebook. Younger people simply do not "phone" anyone, ever, about anything!
I’ve never had a Facebook either…although it sounds enticing. All of my family and friends rave about it and say, ‘well it’s a good way to keep up with everybody.”
I opt for the way we all used to keep up before Facebook. Writing hand written letters, real phone calls, dropping by the house to say hello, mailing pictures USPS…etc etc. That method worked great for a long time, and still does for some folks. I think it was better…with the modern technological advances and conveniences dominating society these days…I feel like the human race has never been more detached from one another…in modern times anyways.
All sorts of Jerry Reed guitar groups on Facebook I would like to be part of….but…nah….I take pride in saying I don’t have a Facebook like everybody else.
In one way or another….it’s trouble.
I deleted my Facebook account 8 years ago. I enjoyed interacting with a group made for long-distance runners but that wasn't enough to hold me in its clutches. My kids and grandkids know my phone number, email address, and street address ... that's enough to keep me 'in the know'. So far ... so good.
BH0 is pretty much 'nontoxic' (aside from a few people with radical worldviews).
Facebook is what you make of it. It is a super important tool for communication amongst a certain demographic (old), in particular in communicating community events and the like. My 'friends' are only people that I know, so I do not deal with any drama because jackwagons don't show up on my feed very often. I do enjoy being able to interact with friends and family more often. The Gen Z folk are much more inclined to Instagram, and shun the Facebook as being for their parents :) The marketplace is good for selling stuff, safer than Craigslist, and clicking "events near me" is a great way to find something cool to do.
