... the CORNERSTONE Speech?
When I see people happily celebrating their First Amendment RIGHT to wave the Confederate flag, I wonder if they have ever LOOKED AT the Cornerstone Speech.
The man who gave it was, at hat moment in History, the Vice President of the Confederacy.
And he made certain that his audience knew that the battles would be fought so that the few who were wealthy enough to treat human beings as property, could continue to DO so.
As with many other wars, noble words were used, to convince the less-than-wealthy to march, fight, and die.
But noble words can be misused, to trick even very smart people into believing that they are fighting for a Righteous and Noble cause, even though they are not.
Anyway, here's a link to the speech.

Scroll on down a few paragraphs, to where he says
" Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests, upon the great truth "......

No, it wasn't.
And it was truly objectionable.
He was making solid and valid points until he got to the white supremacy stuff! Our nation did need a correction at that time, but that could have been accomplished without a war. Such a tragedy for our nation that such an evil institution was allowed to corrupt so very much of what could have been. The corrupt greed of the wealthy few brought destruction down upon the many.
