Someone posted this pic of some behind the scenes banjo lesson.
What ever happened to this banjo?

apologize if it's been posted before, it's been a while since I've seen the movie, I don't recall if this is the same banjo in the film.

"...the movie,..."  Is there a banjo player who doesn't know this scene?

Paul Newman (banjo), Harry Dean Stanton (guitar) jamming on the set of Cool Hand Luke. Definitely on my top 5 list of world's greatest movies. Paul learned the banjo part just for the movie.

Paul accompamied himself using up-picking, but he hadn't gotten the thumb down yet so it was pick, strum or "Boom did-" without the "-dy".

I don't care if it rains or freezes
Long as I've got my plastic Jesus
Sittin' on the dashboard of my car
Through my trials and tribulations
And my travel through the nations
With my Plastic Jesus I'll go far.

Plastic Jesus, Plastic Jesus
Ridin' on the dashboard of my car
Though the sunshine on his back
Makes him peel and fade and crack
A little patching keeps him up to par,

The banjo is a late 19th century Fairbanks Electric.

Appears to have a half-spun pot, so it may be an Imperial Electric, possibly with an inverted tone ring. I have one and it is a great banjo.
