Hi--I've recently acquired two Japanese banjos. One is a FE style one-piece flange instrument labelled 'The Kasuga'(maple archtop/carved heel). The other is a 1977 maple Archtop Gold Star(Tokai rim label)bought from Japan. The case is in need of a new handle but is badged Kawase(the selling shop/store).There's a guarantee label on the back of the H&F headstock.Would those with more vintage knowledge than I possess remove it?.The rim appears to be multi-ply.I wonder what metal would have been used in the tone ring?.I have lying around an old Liberty 40-hole archtop tone ring.I'd hold on to the original but would any benefit be gained by swapping out?.Any thoughts or insights gratefully accepted.

I once owned a KASUGA copy of a Gibson.
Sold it to a friend, and have been TRYING to buy it back, for 40 years.
Sounds great AS IS.
So, advice from an Old Person:
"Don't muss it up."

Leave every thing alone, spend your time learning to play them and that Liberty ring will almost guarantee not fit even terribly, it likely wont fit at all

Kasuga and Gold Star archtop rings are excellent.
