I made a sled to ride on an old shop Smith rails. Basically a horizontal drill press. I'll try to get a picture

I am in the same process of designing up something along those lines. I think YT has some answers.

I just set up a cheap drill press horizontally onto a jig I made up and clamp the neck at the required (3 degree) angle. Because it’s a cheap and cheerful setup I have to run the drill at a slow speed. It also works better with a forsener drill bit.

I copied (as much as possible) the late Ken Levans jig which mounts on a drill press. Look up his somewhere on the hangout.
Here's some pic of mine. It's still a work in progress, any suggestions are most welcome.

I set the neck at 3 degrees on a table and with a drill press and drum sander radius the heel cut for the pot diameter , then using a wooden plug with a hole in it to mark the center of the dowel stick hole. I drill through th tailpiece end through the wooden plug into the neck which is clamped in place aligning everything . Mount the neck using a small screw and verify centerline and string action . If it’s good drill the dowel stick hole using the small screw hole as pilot guide . Assemble and test before gluing for centerline and string action and bridge height . I got the idea from a Stu Mac video
