from the days of yore, it was parked on a delicious Kasuga I adopted not too long ago. I remember installing one of these on one of my banjos way back when and the darn thing always made the 5th string buzz like crazy. One time the little soft plastic sleeve fell off never to be found again so I cut off a small piece of a spray can's nozzle. Waddaya know, an exact fit over the capo's poking thingie. The whole thing still pretty flimsy but it worked great.

Good thing I remembered that as this new-to-me Kasuga also buzzed like crazy on the 5th and yup, I still had a spray can with a suitable nozzle. A just-in-case drop of crazy glue on the metal capo wire and just like forever ago, buzz gone. Yup, still flimsy but works like a charm. I'm going to keep it mounted as it's doubtful I'll be in the mood install spikes anytime soon.

Those capos were basically it as far as the 70's go. I am not sure if Shubb were made then. I can't remember. I do remember though attempting to make a capo out of a clock spring as described by Peter Seeger inn his book.

A number of years ago I ordered some of these capos from Ebay I think. When I fitted one it was absolutely rubbish. The slider rail was so weak it bowed when used. These are still available from Saga Music I believe but I would never touch again. I install spikes.

I believe my Alavarez Whyte Eagle had one of these pre-installed on it, if I remember correctly. Didn't buzz too badly but did buzz. Thankfully better alternatives have made their way to the fore.
