I have been working on building a form that allows anybody to design their own banjo by selecting from numerous options. They get to pick their own wood, inlays, binding, purfling, hardware plating, everything, then it gets submitted to me so I can give them a quote and also create a CAD drawing of their custom banjo so they can get a better visualization of it.

Eventually, I would like for the form to calculate the price so you can see the price of what you've "built" before you submit it, but for now you'll need to submit the designs to me for calculation.

This form is roughly 90% finished. The missing parts are mostly images that show some inlay patterns.

I will be adding more options soon enough, but please share your input about this form, options that might be added, etc. I tried to be extremely liberal in adding lots of options, but I've undoubtedly overlooked things. Even if you're not in the market, I ask that you still check out the form so you might offer input on adding more options, making the user experience better, etc. You don't even have to submit at the end if you would rather not!

It took me a long time to find a form service that allowed the level of customization I was wanting, and I settled with CognitoForms. Eventually, I would like to build my own form from scratch using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.

Go check out the form HERE!

I'm not in the market, but the notion/wording of the "customer essentially build their own" doesn't sound quite right to me ... I like a clear distinction between input/specify/choose/options and "build."  Otherwise the idea sounds good and I wish you well.

I appreciate the input, and I agree, that initial wording doesn't quite seem right. I'll make sure to fix that!

If you are into guitars, Suhr has a Custom Configurator on their website with models, pricing, etc... Check it out and maybe it will give you some ideas.

Id rather work with a builder rather than a web form. I did check out your site and the builder seems to be broken with Firefox Android - just says page 1, page 2, etc with no content. BTW. Your 1954 model seems great - I'm hesitant to buy without seeing it in person though (I'm in MD). You going to be at any festivals in the area? I'll be at Crisfield and Winterfest (2025).

I perfectly understand, and I will update my website to let everyone know that I am still more than happy to work through the options of a custom banjo person-to-person instead of person-to-machine. I just thought that the form may help some people better see what options are available and such.

As for my website being broken, I honestly don't know how that can be fixed, as it is currently built on Shopify. I'll check into that and hopefully fix it. I'm not advanced enough in my own web design knowledge to build one entirely from scratch.

Closest I'm going to be to MD is Parsons, WV, for the Pickin In Parsons Festival. Glad you think it looks great!

Yes! And that's exactly what I plan to have it do when I learn enough about web app development! Thanks for sending this!

I really liked the way that Ken LeVan had his options displayed.  I had worked with him and had one on order when he passed.  He did have an amazing amount of unique things.  Have you done any Grit Laskin or LeVan style inlay?
