There is a feature in one of the settings in "passwords and autofill" in Chrome for Windows 10. Clicking on that one though doesn't show the "autofill" setting anymore, that feature seams to simply have disappeared.
Any other areas where that is available/possible and switch-offable as I find the autofill thing totally annoying.
My desktop Win 10 machine is not uppable to Win 11.
So looking forward to your wisdom.

Are you referring to password autofill or the other types of autofill?

"Addresses and more" has the switch to disable auto-filling phone numbers, e-mail addresses, etc.

Yup, the other types. On that page there's one, and one only option: on/off. The default setting is off and that always used to mean OFF. Since only a few months ago, off no longer means off and entering any character makes the darn thing start guessing URLs you've been to before and filling them in for you. Meaning of course that you'll be using the backspace key a lot.

Depending on what you use your computer for, you might want to be looking for a sale on a new one. In October 2024 windows 10 will be obsolete and no longer supported by Microsoft. That means no more security updates.

Autofill on URLs is fixed by clearing your browsing history. If it doesn't know where you've been it can't try and guess where you are going. I don't know if this can be switched off as I find it useful. Of course if you use incignito browsing they won't be saved in the first place.
The other autofills, usernames and passwords, and saved personal details, are something different.

Thanks folks, your advise greatly appreciated.
@rvrose - Rick, the support for Win 10 stopping soon don't bother me in the least as the anti virus & malware people will continue to do their job.
@AndrewD - yup, deleting history would do the job but there often is some stuff I want to re-visit without having bookmarked it.
Getting too old for these crazy frustrating machines. Trading the darn thing in for a nice banjo sure would save a lot of grief...

Fwiw, I'm reminded of the, "Doc, it really hurts when I turn my arm like this ... etc." joke.  cheeky

Luckily there's more time.  They're currently claiming October 2025, but I wouldn't be surprised if they extended it.

.....

If I've got this right you want it to remember the URLs that are important to you but forget all of the others. Good luck with that smiley
