So I was wondering which is the most common way to play/practice the Bm chord..the 3 finger up one step from Am or the 4 finger barre minor version?
Thanks

Am moved up is easy for me. City of New Orleans has it.

How about just the 3rd and 4th string at the 4th fret. Easy. Doesn't matter how you play it

It depends on the song and the way the chord fits. I usually use just the first three strings but sometimes the open fourth string doesn't fit the melody.

Fred-seriously bro?!? are you kidding me? Look..I don't know what your problem is..don't know..don't much care..none of my business. All I know is that ever since I came on this site you have been harassing me..all because when you tried to get me to sign up for BanjoBens website I told you as politely as possible that I had already found some books/DVD's by Ross Nickerson that worked for me. You didn't let it go...so I told you that I had looked at a few of BB's videos and told you that his teaching style didn't work for me..nothing personal...and not only did you not let it go but you started trash talking about Mr. Nickerson..who, by all accounts, is a damn fine picker and teacher and who has been very helpful answering questions I had by phone and email.
At first I thought it was just me..then I noticed you do this to most of the new people that come on this site.
I don't know Mr. Clark but I simply cant imagine that he would approve of you harassing people to sign up for his website.
All that being said..while things are still civil and polite..we're done..enough is enough.

Hey Patrick1962, I find it easy enough (after practicing it!) to fret both the 3/4th string with the tip of my middle finger. That way you can make the minor chord shape and slide it all directions as needed. So for the Bm:
1st string/4th fret/ ring finger
2nd string/ 3rd fret/index
3rd & 4th string /4th fret/ middle

Fret a C-chord, then flatten your social finger. That's how I do it. I can grab it very fast that way. I struggle getting all fingers in that small a space on the fretboard, especially up the neck. It also leaves the pinky free to grab other notes.

Okay, let's keep things civil, please.

If Patrick isn't interested in BanjoBen, then quit trying to recruit him. He's evidently found a teacher to his liking and let's leave it at that.

KCJones, no need for sarcasm.

I got the message Sherry. I wasn't trying to recruit him just pointing out where he could find answers to his query. I won't be offering him any further advise for sure.

Sometimes when I’m rolling I play the fourth string fourth fret, 1st and 2nd open. It has a nice open sound to it. Don’t play the third string, or you’ll regret it.

Thanks for all the help! Didn't realize there was so many ways to skin a cat..so then, there is no way that is done more often in a majority of BG songs?
