For folks who were around these parts (and I think that's most of y'all) and can remember when I brought this little two week old fella home, guess what?! He is twelve years old today.

Still healthy and a big pain in the a$$!. But he's lovable and I'm kind of attached to him. He was a piglet that his momma rejected, so I brought him home and nursed him with a bottle and housebroke him. He lives in the house and has full range of the house but rarely ventures beyond the living room or his crate where he sleeps, which is what he mostly does.

Thanks to Paul R for coming up with the most appropriate name, Cunningham. After all, he is the smartest pig in the world, as well as the most spoiled.

Anyway, Happy Birthday to Cunningham!

Cunningham has been wonderful. Much more self sufficient than dogs; not needy at all. They're totally controlled by the habits they've developed. Example: I know that it is 7:00 PM every night because Cunningham is standing in front of me, staring and grunting. It's dinnertime. And I don't understand this, but it doesn't matter if it's Daylight Time or Standard Time, he comes calling at 7:00. Housetraining took about a week. When he has to go out, he stands at the back door until somebody notices and opens it. He hasn't had an accident after that first week 12 years ago. When he wants petted or (and this is his favorite) belly rubs, he comes and rubs your leg with his head. Watch out for the tusk! It's kinda sharp.

All in all, he has been a great pet. Oh, they are easily taught, but they are STUBBORN. There is a reason some folks are referred to as "pig-headed".

Look closer. Cunningham is a pig. Although, I do agree with your statement.

I assume he has somewhat refined tastes???   I.e. you don't have to go "slop the hog."

When we were kiddos, we got to choose what we'd get for supper on our birthday [so long as Mom had the stuff on hand, and it wasn't "complicated."]  Mostly, my choice was hot dogs. yes

And, Cunningham's choice would be _____________ ?

This morning, in addition to his breakfast of brown rice and lentils, he got strawberry tops and banana peels. Two of his favorite things.

Does he give you side eye when you eat bacon or did you have to give up pork?

No, but I told his name would become Chris P. Bacon if he gave me any trouble. You don't have to tell him twice.

Mary had a pig.
Named him "Chantilly"
INDOOR pet.
CLEAN!
Says he would let her know when he had to go, then he'd trot to the FURTHEST CORNER of her property, dump a lump, and head back to the house.

Let us raise our glasses in a toast to CUNNINGHAM!
