I had been trying to get a good pic of this bird for years in my back yard, in Kansas. I found it dead near the street. It is about blue jay size, sleek, with long tail feathers. Sorry about a dead bird pic. Brad

Thank you, it’s the only one I ever took notice of around here. Brad

I had a pair of bluebirds around my place for several years. Found one of them dead in the grass in my back yard. Maybe a cat got it or it just died from old age? Anyway the bird's mate (I presume they were a pair) still comes around sometimes. Wonder if he/she will ever find another mate?

In the bird Family Mimidae including Brown Thrashers, Mockingbirds and Catbirds. Mimidae refers to mimicking of other bird species' calls.

I may have heard trying to imitate a blue jay? I used to see a lot of mocking and cat birds around here, as a kid.

West Nile Virus has devastated the birds around here, especially the corvidae (jays, crows, et.al.). Is there West Nile in your part of Kansas?

We are hearing more of the bird flu spreading beyond birds, into mammals, like dairy cows and more.

Yep, if it was the same bird I had been seeing, it was interesting to watch. Fast, quick, but skiddish.  It was always the first to bolt at any sign of danger. It could make a scary screeching cry.  Brad
