I was playing in a local trio, posting here, enjoying life and music, eyeing retirement, etc. Them COVID. Venues dried up over night. My band decided to call it quits. No more need to practice, no more desire to play. Sold the house, downsized drastically, fully retired, moved into retirement condo. Sold, donated and gave instruments away. Was instrumentless and didn’t play a lick for 4 years. Thought I was cured of banjoitus.

Long story short. Oliver Anthony relit the fire for me. The guy who went from YouTube nothing, to the country music charts over night, playing a resonator guitar. I thought how cool, I want one of them guitars. Checked out FB classifieds and bought one locally… and I’ll be darned, the seller was my old band mate. We reconnected, and contacted another old band mate… who just so happened to have one of my old banjos, and gave it back to me. It’s an early Deering Americana. Man, talk about jumping right back into the deep end. So we are back to jamming, and no idea what happens next.

So what better way to come full circle, than to come back here and say hi? I used to be DeanT here, or possibly Dean from Kansas or something like that. But I couldn’t find my old account, and the email/password thing didn’t work, so I made a new account. So cool to see so many names I recognize. 4 years just vaporized into the past, but it’s good to be back.

My brother in law confiscated the slide, when he got his hands on it, and uses it on his National reso guitar!

YES, still running! Just not as fast. In fact that was another reason I walked away from music for 4 years. I had some athletic bucket list items to get done before I got any older. With those accomplished, I can now settle into a more sane routine, with plenty of time for music

Thanks Sherry! Yes, that was my old account. I tried logging on, but still unsuccessful. Interestingly, I've had the same email for over 20 years, and it doesn't work with the old account, and is now connected to my new one. Which is fine by me. Those are good memories, and some interesting old photos, but I'm honestly a different person in a different phase of life... and am fine to let the old me lie, and carry on with my new account.

Maybe onto a tangent  [or maybe not?],  in the last couple of years I've been hearing more about "languishing."

That's a good question! He loved his heavy metal banjo! Then poof he was gone... anyone know what happened?

Owen, I googled languishing, and see it’s the thing! Sounds about right… the first year was really bad, after spending every spare minute for 15 years, practicing … suddenly nothing. It was very depressing.

Chuck, Yes! Thumb and 3 fingerpicks… I’m also fingerpicking my reso guitar… but not as much as my banjo. 6 strings is too freaking complicated!!!

Welcome back Slammer! Glad I’m not alone in this!

Yes! We are going way back! I sold the Calico to finance a Mastertone. The Helix went to a band mate, who moved out of state, and took it with him. Somewhere in the early 20teens I got rid of the Mastertone (way too freaking heavy) and got the Americana I'm playing now.
