I'm currently living in south florida and am looking to purchase a new banjo. I'd like to try out a few so that I can get a better idea of what I'm looking for. Right now im stuck buying online from sources that have good return policies but this is time consuming and expensive.

Is there anywhere in the state of florida that sells banjos that I could go in and try some out? Guitar center only ever carries the same couple cheap models in my experience and I'd really like to try a bunch out before buying one.

Any advice in general would be super appreciated.

Thank you

If you are willing to travel to north Georgia you could try dozens of banjos at Geoff Hohwald’s Banjo Warehouse in Dahlonega. It would be worth an overnight trip if you want to be able to try multiple brands at multiple price points.

If you’re interested PM me and I can give you his cell phone number. I have no financial interest. I’m just a satisfied customer.

Gold Tone HQ is in Titusville, about 4-1/2 hours away. Might be worth a road trip to visit them and try their serious instruments, of which there are several models now ranging from $1300 to $3700. I guess contact them first to see if their showroom is open to the public with instruments to play.

3-1/2 hours in the exact opposite direction is Sullivan Banjo in Silver Hill, Alabama. Eric builds, customizes, and repairs banjos. Not for me to say whether he has anything for you to try, but there's no harm in asking.

I hope someone who knows the Florida instrument market will come to your aid with a more useful answer.

Man I feel your pain. The largest Sam Ash just closed up here in Clearwater. Love hearing about these other places.

Google Ross Nickerson at Banjoteacher.com. Believe he is located in the Tampa area.
