Written in 1909 by Lincoln and Lambert, The Carter Family recorded it in 1929 as “The Homestead On The Farm”. It became a Mac Wiseman favourite; Anne Murray also had it on one of her early albums. I fingerpick the D-35 and included vocals. Harmony vocals and rhythm guitar added via iMovie.

Great version, nice pickin' and singin'.

One of my favorites. We used to play it at gigs many years ago and had another verse/chorus about wonder how the grandkids are... that always went over well with the audience.

I remember when Mac Wiseman’s entire repertoire consisted of this one and Eight more miles to Louisville.

Thanks, Laurence. I saw Mac at a BG Fstvl in 1975,, he wore those out, and Jimmy Brown the Newsboy & So Sweet to be Remembered. lol

Deviation here , but another war horse I never hear is " When u & I were Young Maggie " played that at my first local banjo contest a LONG time ago {:0)
