" If you are a man here are 10 things you wear which will tell the world that you are over 50". Here are 10 things which will age your house and make it look outdated. Yes ! I don't bother reading those ads which are trying to sell me a new set of clothes, a new set of kitchen cabinets, or a new car which is specifically designed to impress any 20 year old. One thing a mature grown up will realize is that we are not on this earth to impress a trendy individual with childish ambitions. Old people are real people. Old age is as real as it gets. My family is the best. My clothes are comfortable, my car is dependable, and my mediocre house is paid for. What else do we need ?

Don: "I don't bother reading those ads that are trying to sell me a new set of clothes."

I don't either ... at least 'til reading your post.  An ad for this popped up a couple of times earlier today.

I've noticed that at our jams a few of the performers (?) wear a hat* or some other adornment.*  I've got a nice cowboy (?) hat [worked in AB in the mid-70s].  So I asked my wife if she thought I should get the suit, or start wearing my hat.  Without even taking time to consider: "Your hat!"  sad

Edit: * = i.e. in addition to, not instead of, their regular clothes.

Chuck .. by the time I hit 60 I lost about 12 pounds which I never got back. I had shirts in the closet which I wore back in the 70's as an apprentice lineman. Today I'm back to wearing 3 or 4 of those old relics. Not only that but my oldest kid [now 45] became an obsessive weight lifter so he ended up giving me some of his older shirts in perfect condition.

I wear Land’s End polo shirts (the kind with a pocket). For about three or four years, I would buy a few of colors I lacked every time there was a sale. I’m not hard on them, so I havent bought one in probably six years now. I think I have around 40.

If it's just an ad...

...leave it alone.

Shirts without pockets [to sag and pull holes in the main fabric at the upper corners] suit me just fine.

Bart, the medium-to-high-end mens' wear stores* that I patronize generally seem to have pocketed ones in stock ... maybe you need a change of scenery.  cheeky

* = aka thrift stores [and fwiw, out here in beautiful west-central Man-ee-toe-bah, small town stores and/or MCC ones have better prices than Winnipeg].

And further off topic... recently we visited relatives near Ottawa. Our SIL got the tires on their vehicles switched over.  Soon after he got back in the house he mentioned where he had been and toot-de-sweet I started getting ads from Michelin and two tire shops in Ottawa on my wife's laptop. What the?!?!?!

Like it or not, commercials are a necessary evil. Not to say we have to take the bait. Go P, get out some snacks, pour a drink.

Western, bowling/golf, Hawaiian, even some T-shirts have at least one pocket, if you know where to find them.

"My clothes are comfortable, my car is dependable, and my mediocre house is paid for. What else do we need" ?

Uhh, well past 50 & currently unattached, my entire mediocre house, yard(s) & garage has become man-cave central. Lacking dress restrictions, I am free to pick & choose attire appropriate to the occasion, hats over ball caps, fancy western dress boots, denims, & shirts, thank you very much. Whatever works. Lack of opportunity, should occasion halfway warrant, I've been known to go a bit overboard. At my advanced age, I am able to acquire nasty fossil fuel vehicles suiting the occasion & couldn't care less what's being pushed.

Female Homo sapiens, be free spirits, best learn not to make waves & get along. sad These days, it's the rare woman whose presentation style earns more than a casual nod. Especially that pictured in the previous post.

I rarely post on Facebook anymore. Until the Facebook Cops threaten me, I'll not lose sleep over Facebook.
