Not sure what the xrate is right now but if legitimate that does not sound like a bad price at all. The year is a little after Rich era if I remember correctly but close enough that most agree the quality was still there. If it is a Rich era that would be even better. Still, if you can see it before you play it and it pans out, that price looks to be pretty good.

That's $1900 US -- an outstanding price. I haven't seen a post - '88 RB-250 for under $2,000 US in years. Under $3,000 US is becoming rare.

So if it's genuine, in good shape, sounds good, and you want it then get it. Do it now before someone else does. With that kind of asking price, I wouldn't even bargain. Pay the 1500 and be happy with the score.

I have heard enough post-2000 Gibsons to know I'd be happy owning one -- if I were in the market.

It's going to have a good rim, flange and probably Kulesh tone ring. Some shipped with the "Crowe" ring (made by Sullivan).

Did some have issues of fit and finish? Maybe I don't know. If so, I'd bet it's nothing that can't be fixed. And at 1500 GBP you have room to put additional money into this banjo without exceeding its worth.

If this banjo is as you describe, it's a no-brainer. If the widow is selling low because she doesn't know what she has . . . oh, well.  She's possibly leaving $500 to $1000 US on the table. It might take longer to get the max.  So I'd say the instrument is priced for quick sale. And you should oblige her.

1500 GBP = $1895.70 USD

$4.30 less than $1900.

I'd say that the price makes it worth the 3-hour drive to check it out in person. As noted above, best do it quickly.
