Arthur Hatfield hasn't been as active on the BHO of late - but then again, it was Bev who did most of the posting. In many ways, she ran the business and left Arthur to do what he does best: build the best value in high-end banjos available these days.

I heard from @pipefitter (Ed Stacey) that Bev passed today. This doesn't surprise, really; she has been on supplemental oxygen for several years now. But it's still sad news.

Arthur and Bev are among the rare few I've met in the past 50 years who were completely without guile. And most of those I met prior to that hadn't figured out how to do guile yet. They were simple - as in, honest and straightforward and un-fancy, not ignorant or uneducated - people. With Arthur and Bev, you met them once and you knew you had found people you could trust.

How many people do most of us meet these days like that?

If you went to talk with Arthur about a banjo, Bev would feed you - simply but brilliantly. If you went to pick up the banjo, she would feed you again - simply but briliantly. If you took the banjo back for some work... well, you know. Bev simply loved having people stop by, and anyone who crossed her threshold was welcome.

May God grant Arthur His grace, and may He also grant grace to those who loved Bev. She was a rare person - kind without pre-conditions, and that doesn't happen often these days. May God welcome her home!

Sad news indeed. Bev was a great lady. Our sympathy to Arthur and his family during this difficult time. We had some fun times at SPBGMA.

Skip,
Thanks for letting us know. I will miss Bev's facebook posts and great attitudes on how good coffee is, love of little houses, her pride and joy in her younger family members, and her Good Morning posts.
I feel terrible for Arthur. They were a great team.

The Hatfields were fine folks, good folks. No presumptions with them and they were absolutely the kindest folks one could ever hope to meet. Arthur will be in many of our thoughts and hearts. He's the best for sure.

Condolences to Arthur. Bev sounds like she was a wonderful person. Skip King, a professional wordsmith, did right by her in his memoral post.

All of my interactions with both Beverly and Arthur through the years have been top-flight Fine Folks both and know Miss Beverly will be missed. Not the best news to start off the day, that's for sure.

Thanks so much for all the nice compliments about Bev and those of me as well. We were simple people who didnt want much out of life just to live simple stay out of others business and appreciate the same from others. I have never seen anyone take anything out of this world with them regardless of what worldly things they had accomplished .I talked to her about 7;30 Mon morning she was very weak and asked her if she wanted me to call the ambulance and her voice was a little stronger with the word NO. I went to take a shower in about 15 or 20 min. when I returned to the room she was in she was already gone just that quick .I dont think she suffered any at all more than usual just went to sleep and never woke up Like the dr. had told us that a lot of people with copd really bad do. Things will be a lot different here as I now have to do all paper work write checks make all orders for parts and prepare for taxes and prepare small items such as bridges-tuners-dvds to be shipped things that she has always took care of which all of those things take a lot of my work time .I am not hiring anyone to do those things I cant afford a good pay salary just to do that will just have to do the best I can. My actual building time will be cut a lot. I will be harder to reach because it will be only land line phone 270-646-5219 and email hatfieldbanjos@scrtc.com I am not on any social media sites. A lot of people mainly used her facebook and messenger for contacting us about business. There was a very large crowd at the visitation and a lot from a fairly long distance. We would rather had a lot of friends than a lot of money. Without friends life is not much.

My sincerest condolences to Arthur and his family. Whenever I called Arthur, I always looked forward to the brief chat I’d have with Beverly before she got him on the phone. Her voice and her kindness will be missed.

I'm so sorry. Like all the others have said, my time with them was brief but unforgetable. We rented a house close to them for the weekend when he worked on my banjo. We were greeted like family and they became a part of ours. My wife's family were from Paintsville and Van Lear and went to school with Loretta Lynn. That's all Bev needed to hear! Like I said, a few but memorable hours together. Well done Bev. All our thoughts are with you Arthur.
