Can anyone help me with the tuning Pete Seeger uses on the Almanacs " I dont want your million dollars mister:. Or even the notes or style of playing, clawhammer or picking. Im using a 5 string open back and I just can't get near it. It's a brilliant sounding tune and Pete's playing is superb.
Thanks all from Western Australia

Sounds to me like typical "Seeger style" picking, mixed with a little two finger technique, in G CGBD tuning.
All are well described in Seeger's "How to play the 5 string banjo" book.

The book should be findable, even in Australia.

Here is a live link: https://youtu.be/hdlRXjRTr4U

It is in the key of C# so I guess (after listening once) it is drop C tuning capo 1.

I think the tune is related to "East Virginia Blues", also sometimes called (I Don't Want Your) Greenback Dollar.

Here is another link to a live performance: https://youtu.be/gfeQAkLbK0Y where he absolutely is playing in C and C tuning.
