I recently bought a bunch of banjo parts as a lot. Among the items in the lot was a pair of old Kluson D tuners. They are complete except that one is missing the screw that holds the knob on. Does anyone have any idea what thread those things are? I have exhausted every resource in Lexington trying to find one. Even the old trusty Chevy Chase hardware store doesn't have one that small and they have everything. I could check with fastener companies online if I knew what size to order.

You could check a gun repair shop, they seem to have lots of tiny high thread count screws. If there's enough material on the shaft, you could drill and re-tap the hole for a more standard part. On a fifth string tuner once, I forced the issue by cross threading a barely oversize stainless steel screw; the brass shaft conformed to the screw threads and worked just fine for holding a tuner button. Good luck in your search!
