Guitar Show details Yes, there will be banjos. One person has posted a large collection on FB that will be available. In addition to usual dealers, I just saw this on Banjo Market Space Buy Trade Discuss and Sale:

Tracy Curtis

Selling/trading much of my banjo collection. I will be attending the Carolina Guitar Show, Fletcher, NC (Asheville) March 9th & 10th if you would like to sample any of the banjos. I live in WV and would meet within a reasonable distance.

- 1931 Gibson RB-1 (121), original 5-string, uncut w/brass hoop. Completely original with the exception of flower art on the back of the resonator. w/original case. $ 9500.

- 1930 Gibson TB-4 (9521) conversion, OPF, uncut, chrome plated 40 hole archtop, flange has severe pull. Tension hoop, arm rest and tailpiece are not original. Nice quality 5-string neck, builder unknown. Original tenor neck included. $ 7500

- 1929 Gibson TB-1 (9486) double conversion, fat rim, Wyatt Fawley neck, Curtis McPeake tone ring, currently wearing Prucha flange (original flange included w/2 sections broken). $ 4600.

- 1990 Gibson Granada, Rich Era, Original, plating has wear, good shape. $ 6500.

- 2013 Huber VRB-G, Trutone, HR-30, gold is in good shape, recent frets and setup by Huber. Played by a busy player who was pretty rough on the resonator. $ 4500.

- Recent Tim Davis Don Reno Model, original and near mint. $ 3,000.

- 1980 Stelling Golden Cross, Walnut, Maltese Cross, Block Rim, Neck heel has been repaired. $ 4500.

- Chuck Lee Rose Hill open back. 12" Pot, Wooden tone ring. $ 2000.

Trades will be considered. Interests include quality acoustic guitars and mandolins, vintage or boutique electric guitars. Currently looking for an ES-175 or L-5CES, maybe another Tele.

PM, call or text (304) 203-4623. Tracy Curtis

Guitar shows are quite the curiosity. Some dealers are as much interested in buying as selling, but interest in buying banjos is limited to a few. In fact some dealers just show up to buy--no inventory. There are folks walking around with banjo cases, typically to trade or sell them, so approaching visitors and asking them what they have for sale is a-okay. Most transactions are cash. Remember that dealers pay 50 to 75% of retail. Don't be the fool wanting $950 for a $1000 retail banjo.
Lines are super long in the morning. Try to arrive at 9 am for a 10 am opening.
Electric guitar dealers tend to dislike banjos--if they have one they want to sale it quick so no one will seem them with it.

There have been some surprisingly good deals in Fletcher for that reason. Other stuff requires some real haggling. Saturday morning line is a beast for the first 90 minutes. But if you're only interested in banjos there is no huge rush. Sunday is the day to get deals.

Yeah, I wish they had a better way to manage the line, but that's just the way it is. Looks like Tracy wants retail on about all of his banjos ....... don't blame him for that .... especially if he is no hurry to sell them. I have seen some decent deals from folks walking around and some reasonable deals form dealers. It seems that the very desirable Martin guitars, yet in not-so-good condition are the most overpriced items. I'll be there looking ..... maybe even take something.

If I weren't out of space in the closets and under the bed, I would be having a serious look at that Davis Reno.   No disrespect to the other top builders, but his stuff is undervalued compared to what I see in the $4-5K range.

Thanks for the tip Brian, but right now I'm not looking for any new banjos. I know there are some great ones out there, but nothing that I really want. Of course, I guess there is always that one a person might fall in love with, so I won't rule anything out! Like you, I have also just about run out of room!

When you're not looking is when the best deals come around, right?

Lunes were not bad. More dealers this year. Some good deals. Merle Haggard's guitar player (Redd Voelker) was walking around, which created a stir. Kenny Smith has a booth. Tracy Curtis is there with his banjos, and they are nice.

I didn't notice Kenny Smith but I stopped by to see Tracy's banjos .... some nice ones. There were also some other nice banjos there, but nothing that I really needed. Some nice guitars too. Plenty of choices of electrics!

Brian, I appreciate you sharing the info and enjoyed meeting you at the show. Several folks from the banjo community stopped by to pick the banjos. We have a a talented and good bunch of folks between here and the facebook pages. A couple of my highlights were getting a picture with one of my heroes, Redd Volkaert, and chatting with Kenny Smith. Also brought home a couple new toys. Thanks, Tracy
