Hello friends. I'm building a project banjo pot. It's extra deep, so I need extra-long hooks, somewhere about 3 1/2 inches. I was able to source the steel rod easy enough, and haven't had much trouble bending them, but I can't for the life of me find a consistent source of 8-26 threading dies. I found one off Ebay, but that's about worn out (I think I was a little light on the tapping oil at first). Anyone know a good source for 8-26? Thanks,
Easy

I did a quick search on Amazon and see that 1/8" dies are all 27 pitch - good luck

This die is essentially the same as the 8-26, with the thread profile being a bit different and the diameter 5/32" instead of .164". I don't have this die myself, but it may work, as the thread angle is 60 degrees, same as UNC, UNF, and UNS, with a radius at the crest and the root. It is a bit undersize (by .008") as compared to the 8-26, but appears to have a set screw that can expand the tap.  You may already have 5/32" rod rather than #8, in which case this would work fine. I have measured a lot of hooks from banjos I've had, and parts I have accumulated, and found only one that measured .164". The rest were in the range of .156", or 5/32".   Possibly someone from the UK can weigh in on this.

That’s standard British Cycle thread, you might like to try Tracy Tools if you have no luck your side of the pond, they stick a huge range of taps and dies, which I use on my old cars and bikes.

Thanks guys. I do indeed have 5/32" rod. I'll try the linked die, let you all know how it works out. Thanks much.
