I've just bought a used RK OT 25 but the strings are poorly installed into the tuners.

I might buy a new set. But which strings to by for old time songs?
. any recommendations would be great. Thanks

FWIW I use GHS PF150 (lights) for both my clawhammer and bluegrass banjos. I like the bronze wrapped 4th.

I use D'Addario EJ61 Nickel 5-String Banjo Strings, Medium. Nice bright tone, avd can stand up to going between A and D tuning!

Craig, strings are a matter of choice. Just as with picks, we all eventually find our favorites. The good news is that they're pretty cheap. If I were you, I'd buy several different sets in different gauges and try them out, seeing what sounds best to your ear.

BTW, changing strings isn't difficult and should be done fairly regularly. Although there are some who prefer older strings, many players prefer the sound of a fresh set. They do wear out, you know - and you should always have a set or two on hand in the unlikely event that one breaks.

I use D'Addario mediums (EJ61) or Eagle Music's own brand Puretone medium set.
