After working my way through Tom Collin's excellent Banjo Blitz I have made a start on the Banjo Quest series.

However Im not sure if I should continue (which would take a few months) or start woriing my way through some music books (learning the songs Im more passionate about)

Thank you

Actually, I just realised most of Banjo Quest are actually songs.

I wonder if they get more advance or if I could jump straight to songs I prefer

(It starts with let me fall)

Are you to the point where you can learn a tune from listening to it? If so, I’d keep Banjo Quest on the shelf for now and try learning some tunes on your own. If that’s a no-go, I would stick with Tom because you can listen and get the rhythm and timing right. That’s not so easy with books. Back to my first question—the whole point of lessons/books/teachers is to get you to the point where you can learn tunes on your own. That should be your goal. Another mile post is playing successfully with others. That’s something to seek out also.

Watched the videos/intros to both the Blitz and Quest lessons. Appears that the Blitz is skill based, while the Quest is about applying those skills (and knowledge) to songs and perhaps creativity/ improvisation (?). He is just asking for 15 minutes a day. Blitz was 50+ lessons, so about 13-14 hours total in two months.

When I started playing banjo, I put in the time for the skill work and learning those first basic songs, but as soon as I could I started working on a song that I was, to put it in your words, more passionate about. Not a long time, maybe 5 or so minutes in my whole practice session (which lasted maybe 30 minutes), but it opened me up to the possibilities and kept me motivated. Long story short, perhaps you could work on both...Quest and some other song(s).
