I heard yesterday that Roni was in hospice. We were lucky to have her perform in north central West Virginia a few times.

Her autobiography is a must read for fans of early country and bluegrass music. She had a hard life, but left her mark as a one of a kind entertainer.

I sure agree with Bob about her book. Truly fascinating in MANY ways. If nothing else, Roni was a good banjo picker who was a good "sport" about the role she usually portrayed.

I am crushed. Having her book, I knew she was getting up there in years, but still,

Roni Stoneman was the impetus that inspired this lost soul to take up Bluegrass banjo. I didn't know it was called Bluegrass, all I knew was her banjo playing turned me on.

R.I.P. Roni. Thank you.

He Haw was taboo for our family. My wife's too, both of us being preachers kids My wife's Grand Pa never missed an episode. The preachers and the kids were welcome to watch when we were at Grandpas. She sure was pretty!
